JOHN CALDWELL CALHOUN
John Caldwell Calhoun, son of Patrick Noble and Katharine Miller Calhoun, died on Thursday, August 16, 2007.
He was born in Macon, Georgia on February 4, 1921, later moving to Savannah with his family as a young boy. He attended school and lived with his aunts in Clemson, South Carolina for several years prior to attending the Citadel in Charleston, South Carolina. Calhoun proudly served his country in World War II in the Navy as a torpedo bomber pilot. Returning safely from the War, he attended Princeton University.
He came home to Savannah and became very active in the Historic Savannah Foundation during its early years. After moving to Atlanta, he worked as an architect with John Portman and Associates for many years before starting his own architectural firm, John C. Calhoun and Associates. Upon his retirement, he once again returned to Savannah.
He is survived by his sister, Katharine Calhoun Saffold Mrs. Joseph C. Saffold and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents and three brothers, Lawton Miller Calhoun, Patrick Noble Calhoun and Andrew Pickens Calhoun.
There will be a private family burial at the Old Stone Church Cemetery in Clemson, South Carolina.
